Les wagons citernes circulant en Amérique du Nord portent en gros caractères
un numéro d'identification (sigle) qui permet de connaître le propriétaire du wagon.

Ces sigles, qui désignent les propriétaires du matériel roulant, sont gérés par l'AAR : Association American Railroad.

These logos, which means owners of rolling stock, are managed by the AAR: American Railroad Association.

-  Les 3 premières lettres désignent une société ou une compagnie et le X indique que cette  entreprise est privée,
    c'est-à-dire qu'elle n'exploite pas un réseau ferroviaire.

   The first three letters designate a corporation or company and the X indicates that the company is private, that is to say,
   it does not operate a rail network.

-  Les chiffres désignent le n° d'ordre du wagon au sein de la société propriétaire.

   The numbers indicate the wagon's order number within the owning company.

Par exemple le sigle NP………indique un wagon appartenant la Northern Pacific, exploitant le réseau du même nom.

For example, the acronym NP ......... indicates a wagon owned the Northern Pacific, the network operator of the same name.
